Wren 300 is a tercentenary celebration of Sir Christopher Wren (1632-1723) - one of the country’s most distinguished Architects.
As proud partners of WREN300, we will be joining Cliveden Conservation in delivering a series of Conservation Workshops (Stone, Plaster, Wood, Glass and Metal).
Join our team at St Bride’s Church, Fleet Street, London for the first in this series which focuses on Stone Conservation over 12th and 13th April 2023.
STONE CLEANING WORKSHOP
12th April 2023
See us in action alongside our partners Cliveden Conservation and Restorative Techniques, as we carry out stone cleaning at St Bride’s using traditional and advanced technology
10am and 2pm: Live demonstrations of laser and ThermaTech® stone cleaning
1pm: Talk about stone mortar repair, repointing and material analysis.
STONE CONSERVATION LECTURE
12th April 2023 (6-9pm)
Pierre Bidaud (The Stonemasonry Company) and Steve Webb (Webb Yates Engineers) start the evening with their collaborative talk ‘A Walk through the New Stone Age’. Oliver Caroe, one of the country’s foremost ecclesiastical architects, and Surveyor of the Fabric to St Paul’s Cathedral, will then talk about the conservation of stone in relation to Sir Christopher Wren.
Meet the people behind the current programme of conservation work including Cliveden Conservation, Restorative Techniques and Terra Measurement who will be giving demonstrations of HD3D digital surveys completed as part of the WREN 300 programme.
STONE MASONRY EXPERIENCE DAY
13th April 2023
If you fancy trying your hand at being a stone mason, don’t miss this interactive experience day. There will be opportunities to ‘have a go’ at letter cutting, marking in stone, and lime pointing. You will also learn all about mortar repairs, indent repairs, repointing, mortar and stone analysis.
- 10-11am: Learn about the basics of stone conservation from expert stonemasons
- 30pm: Pointing of indent demonstration. Audience can ‘have a go’ at pointing
- 20 min Letter Cutting sessions at 11am, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm
