Providing Risk Mitigation and Service Strike Avoidance

Use our expertise to inform your site design at the very beginning.  Create project efficiences and avoid unforseen problems and costs.

Utility Surveys are the accurate mapping of the utility services below ground level.

Utilising GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) and EML (Electro-Magnetic Locating) techniques, the survey will establish exactly what services are present in the surveyed area in both horizontal and vertical position.

Terra Measurement offer BSI PAS128 Type A-D surveys. We can consult and advise on the network of utilities and services in the surveyed area from project conception, right through to project completion.

Information is presented in digital drawing or model format (Auto CAD .dwg/.dxf in 2D or 3D) and augmented reality.

All Utility Surveys are provided with a report that specifically references survey methods, findings and any limitations found on site.

Any recommendations for further investigations at a later date are also included.

When is a PAS128 Survey for development required?

Risk Mitigation! A PAS128 underground utilities survey informs the project team of the location of any services that may affect the project. At design stage the PAS128 survey allows the team to ensure any diversions or service connections are planned and costed appropriately.

Service Strike Avoidance! Once the project requires excavation the PAS128 survey will inform the excavation team of the location of the service and allow the team to plan how the excavation proceeds.

What is a BSI PAS128 survey?

It is the process of detecting the underground infrastructure using industry agreed methods. Using Ground Penetrating Radar and Electro-Magnetic Location and site evidence. The utilities below the surface can be detected, identified, and surveyed without the need to disturb the ground. Following the methods of PAS128 allows the survey team to indicate the confidence of the accuracy each service detected.

Why is a PAS128 Survey essential to any development?

Risk Mitigation! :A PAS128 underground utilities survey informs the project team of the location of any services that may affect the project. At design stage the PAS128 survey allows the team to ensure any diversions or service connections are planned and costed appropriately. Service Strike Avoidance! :Once the project requires excavation the PAS128 survey will inform the excavation team of the location of the service and allow the team to plan how the excavation proceeds.

Will a PAS128 Survey locate all services underground?

It is important to note that a PAS128 underground utilities survey should be considered as an essential part of the primary contractor’s health and safety tool kit. The survey should identify and locate as many services as possible. There are limitations to what can be achieved with the technology, the limitations can be affected by various factors and a PAS128 survey should always be checked prior to excavation as part of the site safe working procedures.
