Our work with SPAB
Terra Measurement managing director, Andy Beardsley, is a Guardian of The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) on the Technical and Research Committee.
Andy is passionate about helping our heritage sites and buildings benefit from the 3D digital age, and has been involved in capturing heritage buildings in 3D since 2006. He has helped develop techniques and innovation that help heritage stakeholders and guardians gain better value and analysis from our data.
Terra Measurement Provides expertise and advice to The SPAB, particularly with Disaster Mitigation and Digital Accessibility.
We have helped, surveyed and advised for several of their projects and helped other specialists and volunteers benefit from our digital information and expertise.
Some of these projects include:
Every year, we give our all to the SPAB Working Party and have made some great friends along the way.
As part of our community and charity engagement, we continue to act as specialist volunteers with SPAB and have done this since 2014.
We are proud sponsors of 'The Philip Webb Award' in 2022 - setting architects in the early stages of their career a demanding but exciting dual conservation and design challenge.
Our work with Heritage
The most important and fulfilling parts of what we contribute to heritage sites is by addressing the issue of Accessibility. Our 3D digital data is used for visualisations and virtual reality exploration to enable ‘digital accessibility’.
For example, if a digital twin has been captured it can be used to create an immersive experience for those who cannot view the site due to physical, financial or distance restrictions.
This resource not only raises awareness and interest, but in some cases this immersive experience can be monetised by a gateway fee or a donation to help build funds for repairs.
We have created immersive accessibility experiences and digital artefacts for the National Trust, SPAB, The Arkwright Society, Bennerley Viaduct, English Heritage, Greens Windmill and Science Centre and Heage Windmill.
This helps save our heritage by increasing the resources available for preventative maintenance, research and inspection.
